The way some people seem to see fictives, animal people, etc.as "frivolous".

I mean, I won't say that we're typical.  And there certainly isn't a lo of straightforward uncomplicated humanity here, even when we're not speaking with one voice.

But the fictives among us and some of our more unusual members have been involved and helpful in a lot of everyday stuff.  Like, even "things we get payed for" stuff.  (And that's even leaving aside that there's a lot of important stuff that people do in this society that you basically can't get paid for.)

*shrugs*

I feel like I read something once about why our culture has a really deep rooted hostility towards things it considers ridiculous and against reason. Like there was some type of intellectual movement or something that had a big impact on how we treat both ideas that we consider strange, and mentally ill people. Anyway, it's not cool, and it's DEFINITELY not cool to treat people like jokes. :c You'd think they assume people who are different live in bubbles and don't KNOW how weird we look to other people, otherwise they'd realize how much courage it takes to talk about it in public.

It's funny, but I was just writing about this on my own journal: how much Wade has been helping us lately. "Frivolous" her presence is not - it's basicaly pulled us out of a heavy depression, for one thing.

Your entry got pushed down pretty low because of all the locked posts on my flist, so I didn't see it, but when I logged out, it showed up right at the top. I feel like that was more than coincidence.

Hi, I'm Wade and I approve this message.

Wanna be mutuals? I could sure use to hang with more people who get that having a fictional story exist about you in some reality doesn't make you less than a person, or make your life some kind of roleplaying game that can be put down and picked up at leisure.

No problem! I don't mind if you guys don't post specifically about that stuff - I'm more interested in making friends who share my thoughts on it. :)

(And oh gosh thank you! You're the first person/people who actually got the reference! :) :) You get an internet cookie. (::) )

Yeah, it's really weird. We have a couple folks from stories here (they aren't big fans of the 'fictive' term) and there's pretty much no correlation between that and how much they do here. Biff has been doing our laundry and shopping since he got here, and him and Mac split cooking duties. Hell, Mac held down our job for over a year, before disability knocked us out!

But I've noticed very little correlation between how "fluffy" a system is and how douchey they are.

Enh, it's okay, fictives is fine. It just often doesn't really matter, since their "source" is always half wrong, at best, and it's all from one story universe that we've written since we were kids. So as far as history goes... it really doesn't make that big a difference. It's not like their lives were THAT far removed from the rest of our lives.

Yeah. It's a weird, complicated story all on its own, the story that sorta-kinda spawned a few of us. (And why that seems to be about the ONLY 'verse we will ever get fictives from, and even then only VERY rarely--we've had two and a half in the history of our system.)

I honestly am not sure I've encountered many fictives at all who stuck to their 'canon' 100%. It'd be interesting seeing the trends in what parts get rejected!

Well, we got the insourced stuff, instead, but here's some of our canon differences:

Me (M.D.):
* obviously the fictional me didn't die.
* I never ended up dating anyone
* obviously the real me is not actually from space
* My fictional life ended pretty much around what was the end of Book Two of Infinity Smashed; I don't go to that world anymore, and have a totally different non-fictional life here instead.

Biff:
* does not pass for white as often (his fictional version looks like this in the lower left hand corner; he looks like this)
* has a different (worse) trauma history than his fictional counterpart.
* came to terms with being gay on his own
* had surgery much earlier in his life
* also, I up and died on him, so his life totally derailed onto a different course in 2004.

Mac was pretty much the same though. But that's not hard, since he was a really minor character who says like one line on the phone and dies.

It's okay! I won't pretend it's all smoothed over or anything, but I feel like we've mostly worked past it. I think we're okay.

Yeah. It was rough, but I think we've made it through okay. It still comes up every once in a while, but I think in general, we've mostly dealt with it. It was over ten years ago that that all went down, after all! It's been a long time.
